The Junior Energy Watchers are a group of 2nd graders who decided that they were going to monitor the school and its energy usage. They meet every Monday to learn about how to be more energy conscience and they also learn ways to convey this information to the Thomas Jefferson school community. With the assistance of Ms. Porsha Stokes, the funds that were acquired through the Energy Hub Grant and the Baltimore Office of Sustainability, the Junior Energy Watchers developed a method to teach students and teachers how to be more GREEN. The Junior Energy Watchers will conduct a school wide project during our block party. They will use solar energy to make ovens and make smores. The Junior Energy Watchers also attended a trip to the Science Center to learn about different forms of energy.
Using the audit form below, students canvass the school, with Americorps workers and perform unannounced audits on different areas of the campus. Staff is then asked to provide feedback and recommend ways that energy can be saved.
Congrats!!!!
Thomas Jefferson was selected as 1 of 23 schools to receive the Energy Hub Grant
